IF's weekly highlight on the people that make up our company. This week the spotlight is on Jeremy Cox.
Jeremy Cox is a designer and has been working out of Imaginary Forces' NY office for two years. Here are his thoughts:
On where he's from:
I grew up in Brattleboro, Vermont. I then lived in Sarasota, Florida for 4 years while attending the Ringling College of Art and Design for Graphic and Interactive Communication. I had decided early on that New York was where I wanted to end up and moved here right after graduation.
On how he got into the business:
Art has been a major part of my life for as long as I can remember. In high school I had a job doing web design, but ultimately wanted to go to school for computer animation. Mostly out of pure luck, I instead ended up in a graphic design program and fell in love with motion graphics.
On how he first got involved at IF:
One of my professors met Karin Fong at an AIGA conference and told her he had a student she needed to meet. I interviewed over my holiday and spring breaks, and started at IF New York a month after graduating.
On favorite IF projects:
Charlotte's Web was one of the first main titles I had a part in, and was a great crash course in the limitations of how many 3d layers After Effects can handle. I am very happy with the final result, though. Other favorites are the Mad Men opening titles and a short film for the induction of Paul Rand in to The One Club's Hall of Fame.
On alternative careers:
I'm sure I would love being an industrial designer. I've always been good with spatial relations and working in 3 dimensions. There is also something very gratifying about ending the creative process with a physical product you can hold in your hand.
On hobbies:
I bicycle to work year round and spend much of my free time going on rides and exploring. It is both the fastest and most enjoyable way to get around New York.
On what excites him about design and production:
Every project is a problem to be solved. I rarely start with any preconceptions of what the solution will be, but the fun is in figuring it out. It is an exhilarating journey to go from a few crazy ideas to a finished piece.
On something someone may not know about him:
I once built a working trebuchet catapult.
