Imaginary Forces (IF) was enlisted by Dolby to create a 3D stereoscopic trailer to introduce their new 7.1 Surround Sound technology. The trailer will appear in front of Disney‘s TOY STORY 3, the first film to take advantage of this new technology. The challenge was to conceive and design a simple yet sophisticated audio driven piece — something that would make the audience turn around in their seats to notice the extra channels of sound in the back.
IF created a sequence that was driven by a simple abstract object: a sphere. Flocks and groups of these balls are assigned different behaviors and personalities ranging from playful to dramatic, creating particular sounds traveling across the theatre.
IF collaborated with Oscar-nominated sound designer Ren Klyce and Dolby‘s own John Loose to craft a piece of sound that literally surrounds the audience, and enhances the spheres that are swirling all around the space. The final result is a sound and visual experience that is literally “all around you.”
