Curator Jeff Kipnis of the Wexner Center for the Arts approached IF to design this installation as an "overture" to a much larger show on contemporary architecture and design called "Suite Fantastique." Spanning the practices of sculpture, architecture, and film titles, the show assumed the musical metaphor of a "symphony" and the "overture" was devoted to seven of our opening title sequences including "Se7en," "The Island of Dr Moreau," and "Sphere." Similar to how a title sequence sets the tone from the very first frame of a film, the installation established the theme of the exhibit from the moment the audience enters the gallery. The viewers are drawn in by four elevated, ascending screens (designed in collaboration with architect Greg Lynn) that hang in a sequential configuration and play in concert with the main display, a seventeen-foot high-definition screen. Viewers are invited to navigate the space and watch the process, the completed work, or both at the same time.
